Gear cutting questions
What gears can you cut?
Spur and helical gears on our two hobbing machines, and spur gears on three gear shaping machines. We also cut pinions and gear blanks turned on our own lathes.
What information do you need to quote a gear?
The Module or Diametral Pitch (DP), number of teeth, pressure angle, face width, bore and material — or send the worn gear and a drawing and we will work from that.
Can you copy a broken or worn gear?
Yes. Reverse engineering replacement gears from a sample is regular work for us, provided enough teeth remain to measure the original form.
Do you have the right cutter for my gear?
Cutters are specific to the Module or DP, so please confirm yours with the enquiry and our team will check availability and advise on tooling.
Can you make the whole gear, not just cut the teeth?
Yes. We turn the blank, cut the teeth, and grind bores or faces where a close tolerance fit is needed — all in the same factory.
