Model 10/65 1200 Short Bar Automatic Loader

Model 10/65 1200 Short Bar Automatic Loader automatic barfeeder manufactured by Pitchline Engineering in Pinetown, South Africa

Model 10/65 1200 short bar automatic loader

The Model 10/65 1200 is a short bar automatic loader built at our own factory in Pinetown. It loads 10mm to 65mm bar stock up to 1200mm long into your CNC lathe without an operator standing at the machine, so the lathe keeps cutting through breaks, over lunch and after the shift ends. Actuation is fully electric with no air supply needed, control is by PLC, and the machine only requires a 1M code signal from the lathe. The magazine loader accepts random lengths, bar straightness is not critical, and the whole unit takes about a third of the floor space of a conventional barfeed.

Where the short bar automatic loader is used

  • Unattended CNC turning through breaks and after hours
  • High volume repeat turned parts — pins, bushes, spindles, adaptors
  • Adding automatic loading to an existing CNC lathe
  • Workshops that are short of floor space around the machine
  • Shops running mixed random-length bar stock

Model 10/65 1200 questions

How does a bar loader give me extra hours of production a day?

The lathe no longer waits for an operator to load each bar. Once the magazine is filled the machine keeps cutting parts on its own, so it carries on through tea breaks, lunch and after the operator has gone home. On a normal shift pattern that easily adds up to about four hours of extra running a day.

Is a bar loader a cheaper way to increase output than buying another lathe?

It is usually far cheaper, because you are getting more hours out of a machine you already own instead of buying a second machine, tooling and floor space. Send us the lathe details and we will quote you.

Will it fit my CNC lathe?

The centre height range is 850mm to 1150mm, which covers most CNC lathes. Tell us the make and model of your lathe, the bar diameters you run and your bar length and we will confirm the fit.

What bar sizes and lengths does it take?

Bar stock from 10mm to 65mm diameter, up to 1200mm long. The magazine accepts random lengths, so you do not have to cut every bar to the same size.

Do I need compressed air or a special interface?

No air at all — actuation is fully electric. The loader is PLC controlled and only needs a 1M code signal from the lathe, so wiring it in is simple. Electrics are 380 VAC.

Does bent or slightly bowed bar cause problems?

Bar straightness is not critical on this design, and there is no RPM limitation, so you are not forced to slow the spindle down.

How much floor space do I need?

1600mm x 1250mm — roughly a third of the space a conventional barfeed takes, which is often the difference between fitting a loader in or not.

What maintenance and support does it need?

The machine is designed to be maintenance free. It is built at our own factory at 32 Henwood Road, Pinetown, so parts and support come from the same workshop that made it, and twelve of our own CNC lathes run with our barfeeders every day.
